1944 Handley Page Halifax B.Mk III 4 engine bomber of WW11. On 25 October 1939 the Halifax performed its maiden flight and entered service with the RAF on 13 November 1940. It quickly became a major component of Bomber Command performing strategic bombing missions against the Axis Powers, many of which were performed at night. The Halifax was described as being inferior to its rival the Lancaster, in part due to its inability to carry larger individual bombs such as the 4,000 pound "Cookie" blast bomb.
