UK SPITFIRE used during WW11 and became the backbone of the RAF Fighter Command after the Battle of Britain. The legendary Spitfire has been rooted in Britain since 1925 with the detail design commenced in 1934. The first flight was made successfully on March 5, 1936. In addition to its home defense responsibility, the Spitfire played a major role as an interceptor and fighter-bomber during WW11. It's long and distinguished service ended in June 1957 with the highest production of 20,531 in British aircraft history.
